“You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you.” — Sarah Ban Breathnach
Its almost a given in our lives today. A lot of us want to reach higher. Do bigger things, earn bigger money, drive bigger cars, live in bigger houses, have bigger jobs, have bigger _____, have bigger _____… The list goes on and on. We just want to keep moving and moving. The desire to move in itself is not a bad thing. Without desire in the first instance, we can’t get anything done. However, we fail to acknowledge one highly important factor while desiring and working towards our ‘next level’. Gratitude!
Ask people who have reached far and wide to the peaks of their careers or some of the highest levels of wealth. These things in themselves will NOT fulfill you. There are many other factors that have to be in the mix for you to eventually be fulfilled. Think about a vehicle… You’re going somewhere. You can use all sorts of vehicles. Your legs; very indispensable vehicle. When all else fails, the legs will be there
. You can also have a bicycle; a lot faster than your legs. You’ll get to where you’re going faster. Now think; a power bike… Ahhh, now we’re talking. Talking about some quick far reaching progress. A car, and then an aeroplane. Before I digress, I’ll make this point real quick. Do you know how much work goes into the manufacture of one aeroplane? How many people in the process, tools, equipment and raw materials? Think of your vehicle as the aeroplane. You need to prepare it. You need to design the vehicle, build the vehicle, test that its safe for flying before actually using it to fly.
This process, this work, these materials that go into build of our vehicle apply to our vehicle for reaching higher faster in life as well. Gratitude is one important factor that determines exactly how far you will go. If it will, its like the material your plane is made with. Granted, desire is the fuel but the material your plane is made with determines how well your plane will behave, how effective and efficient it will be on the way to the top. Gratitude allows you to live the moment, look around you now and appreciate how far you have come, creates a pleasurable environment for you and the people directly involved with your welfare to work with you towards getting your vehicle in the right condition for the journey.
Conclusively, think about the fact that there’s always something greater to achieve. Being here alone is a signifier that you know even the sky is not your limit. As long as you made it here, you can make it higher than here. Will the challenges be the same? No. Will you still have to put in a lot of effort? Yes. So what is the variable that shields you from the stress? Enables you enjoy the ride even though you’re threading harsh conditions? Meet Gratitude; the material your vehicle is made out of. The virtue that enables you enjoy and appreciate the moment even while reaching higher to the next. Develop the habit today. Regardless of the situation, find the things around you to be grateful for. There always are! Your eyes to read this now; a great starting point. Be grateful you have eyes that work.
